I bought this laptop on 'special' about this time last year.
Initial load and operation were fine but then, inexplicably,
the damn thing started to lock up on a daily, or hourly -
depending on how it felt, basis. I tried numerous 'cures' -
the new tcserver.exe that had a memory issue, etc. - but
nothing worked.
Then, in a last ditch act before I threw the thing in the
bin, I upgraded the BIOS to version 3.60 (get it from the
Toshiba support site - a Google will take you there!). I
figured I had nothing to lose as it was already a great
doorstop!
Since then - fingers crossed! - it's been fine. No crashes
and the ever-present noisy fan seems to have been cured as well.
If you have an M400, get the BIOS upgrade and start working
again.
